Is there an ibogaine clinic in Tecate?

0Tecate listings across 8 ibogaine and retreat directories

Not one that any directory lists. We searched 8 directories and ran English and Spanish web searches for a provider with an address anywhere in the municipality of Tecate, Valle de las Palmas included. We found none.

The same directories list 17 distinct Baja California names: 5 in Tijuana (1 marked permanently closed), 9 in Rosarito and 3 in Ensenada. Tijuana sits 35 to 55 minutes west of Tecate by road; Ensenada is about 1.5 to 2 hours south on Federal Highway 3.

A provider can still operate without a listing. If someone offers ibogaine “near Tecate”, ask for the street address and the registration number before you share any medical details.

CBP lists the Tecate port of entry as open 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Pacific time, 7 days a week, for northbound cars and pedestrians. Its live feed shows no SENTRI or Ready Lane, and these hours have held since November 2021.

Lines form hours before the 6 a.m. opening; in 2024 ZETA reported people charging up to $400 a month for places in it, and Rancho La Puerta’s arrival guide puts Saturday waits at 3 to 5 hours.

Tijuana’s medical Fast Lane passes are valid at San Ysidro and Otay lanes only. They don’t help at Tecate.

A cardiologist, an emergency physician and an ACLS-trained nurse are in the room for the dose, 1 nurse to 1 patient. A 12-lead ECG runs continuously from before the dose through the night.

Why it matters: ibogaine’s main danger is a heart rhythm problem. The FDA’s October 2026 trial-design notice calls for an inpatient unit able to manage life-threatening arrhythmias, with monitoring that could last 36 hours. In April 2025 the Tijuana weekly ZETA reported: En Tecate no se dispone de los especialistas ni del equipo médico necesario (Tecate lacks the specialists and medical equipment needed), with private ambulance transfers costing MXN 2,000 to 6,000.

What the US, UK and Canada say about Tecate

The UK is the only government of the 3 that names Tecate, and it advises against all but essential travel there. The U.S. rates all of Baja California Level 3, Reconsider travel. Canada’s advisory doesn’t mention Tecate.

  • UK, FCDOUpdated Oct 20, 2026

Tecate or Mexico City: 8 differences that change the decision

Tecate is closer to San Diego and keeps the same clock. Mexico City is where our clinic, its cardiologist and a private hospital 9 minutes away are. Both columns use the same rows, including the ones Tecate wins.

Dated, oldest first

What changed in 2026 for anyone booking ibogaine near the border

The U.S. government acted twice: an executive order in April and an FDA request for information in October. In Baja, a Tijuana-area provider lengthened fentanyl detox after a patient died, and directories started to disagree about which clinics are open.

  • U.S. policy and research
  • Baja California and Tecate
  1. A Tijuana-area provider disclosed a patient death in its detox program, named changing adulterants in street fentanyl, and set a 21-day minimum stay for recent fentanyl use. Its program page now lists detox at 7 to 28 days, so ask which rule applies today.

  2. A U.S. Mission security alert listed Tecate among places affected by security operations and roadblocks.

  3. Texas said it will run its own ibogaine trials through its health agency, after no drugmaker met the terms of its 2025 funding law.

  4. Executive Order 14401 told the FDA and DEA to build a Right to Try pathway “including ibogaine compounds” and set aside at least $50 million for partnerships with state programs.

  5. A preprint covering 19,071 patients at 11 clinics counted 6 deaths within 72 hours, all in patients treated for opioid use disorder. The clinics reported their own data, and the paper isn’t peer reviewed.

  6. The FDA asked for input on ibogaine trial design (docket FDA-2026-N-10429; comments close November 20). HHS is prioritizing adults with opioid use disorder and adults with PTSD, with starting doses no higher than 10 mg/kg.

  7. A Tijuana-area provider announced a program for retired pro athletes with brain injuries. 3 NHL and 2 NFL alumni finished a 5-day program in Baja California in September.

  8. Our directory check: 0 Tecate listings, and 1 Playas de Tijuana clinic shown as temporarily closed on 1 directory and operating on another.

  9. Baja California clocks fall back 1 hour. From then until March, Tecate runs 2 hours behind Mexico City.

Fentanyl

Why the wait before the dose got longer in Baja, and how we set yours

Fentanyl clears on its own schedule, and street supply now carries sedatives such as xylazine and medetomidine that ibogaine does not treat. Our physician sets your washout in writing before you pay anything.

In January 2026 a Tijuana-area provider set a 21-day minimum stay for anyone with recent fentanyl use. We don’t publish a single number for everyone. Yours is based on how long, how often and by what route you’ve used, and what else is in your supply.

If you use during the window, tell us. The date moves, and nothing is charged for it.

How a written washout window reads

  • Washout days, set in writing before any deposit (example: 11)
  • Days 1 to 2: repeat EKG and labs, then go or no-go
  • Day 3: the dose, under continuous ECG

Yes, not yet, no

Who we treat, and who we turn away in writing

We treat dependence on opioids, alcohol, cocaine and methamphetamine. We decline anyone whose heart, medications or recent use makes the dose unsafe, and the reason comes in writing.

Yes

  • Fentanyl, heroin, oxycodone and other opioids
  • Suboxone and methadone, after a planned transition
  • Alcohol, after medically supervised detox
  • Cocaine and methamphetamine, with extra cardiac screening

Not yet

  • A washout that isn’t finished, or use during the window
  • Potassium, magnesium or liver values out of range
  • Open xylazine-related wounds
  • A QT-prolonging medicine without a plan from your prescriber

No

  • Structural heart disease, heart failure or a prior cardiac event
  • A QTc above our written cutoff that can’t be corrected
  • Benzodiazepine dependence as the main problem
  • Pregnancy, breastfeeding, or anyone under 18
  • Requests to skip the screening, the 7 days or the follow-up

Every answer comes in writing, with the reason. Any deposit is refunded in full after a no, and telling us what you’ve used never causes one.

How it runs

6 steps, from first call to day 90

The first 2 steps happen before you buy a flight. Any step can end in a no, and nothing is charged until a physician says yes in writing.

  1. Before travel

    Screening on paper

A 12-lead EKG, potassium, magnesium and a liver panel, ordered near your home and read by our cardiologist.

  2. Before travel

    Washout planned

If you take Suboxone, methadone or an SSRI, our psychiatrist sets the taper with your prescriber.

  3. Days 1 to 2

    Arrival, go or no-go

Our driver meets you at MEX Terminal 1. Repeat EKG and labs; if a number moved, dosing waits.

  4. Day 3

    The dose

Continuous 12-lead ECG and pulse oximetry, with a cardiologist, an emergency physician and an ACLS nurse in the room.

  5. Days 4 to 7

    Monitoring and recovery

Overnight telemetry, a morning EKG every day and a written summary for your doctor at home.

  6. Days 8 to 90

    Follow-up

Weekly calls to day 30, then days 45, 60 and 90, led by our psychiatrist.

Price

What it costs: $12,500, next to Baja’s published prices

Our 7-day program in Mexico City costs $12,500, all-inclusive, with 90 days of follow-up. Short Baja programs publish $6,500 to $9,500, so ours costs more. The difference pays for a cardiologist in the room and a private hospital 9 minutes away.

7 days + 90 days of follow-up

$12,500

1 price for every dependence we treat. Nothing is billed until a physician says yes in writing.

The Tecate Check: 7 answers to get in writing before you book near the border

Ask every clinic these 7 questions, including us. A clinic that won’t answer in writing has given you its answer.

0 of 7

answered in writing by the clinic you’re checking

  1. What is your street address, and which municipality is it in?

No directory we checked lists a Tecate provider, so “near Tecate” needs an address.

Our answer: Mexico City. The full address is given when a visit or a stay is arranged.

  2. Is your registration an aviso de funcionamiento or a licencia sanitaria, and what is its number?

An aviso is a notice filed with the regulator; a licencia covers surgery, X-ray and similar services. In Baja California, the state health-protection agency inspects clinics.

Our answer: a COFEPRIS aviso de funcionamiento. The folio number and a copy are in your screening pack.

  3. Which hospital with a cath lab takes your patients, and what is the drive time at 2 a.m.?

From Tecate, the nearest confirmed labs are 35 to 55 minutes away in Tijuana.

Our answer: a private hospital 9 minutes away. The signed transfer agreement is in your screening pack.

  4. Who is in the room during the dose, by name and cédula profesional?

You can check any cédula in Mexico’s public registry before you pay.

Our answer: a cardiologist, an emergency physician and an ACLS-trained nurse, 1 nurse to 1 patient. Names and cédulas in your screening pack.

  5. What QTc cutoff do you use, in writing?

The FDA’s trial-design notice suggests excluding a baseline QTcF of 430 ms or more.

Our answer: a cardiologist reads your EKG against a written QTc threshold you’re told before you pay. Recent stimulant use gets a lower threshold.

  6. How long is your fentanyl washout today, and who sets it?

A Tijuana-area provider announced a 21-day minimum in January 2026; its program page now lists detox at 7 to 28 days.

Our answer: our physician sets it in writing, for you, before any deposit.

  7. If I’m discharged at night, how do I get home?

The Tecate crossing north closes at 10 p.m. and reopens at 6 a.m.

Our answer: discharge on day 7 after a morning EKG. Our driver takes you to MEX.

FAQ

Questions about ibogaine treatment in Tecate

Short answers. Anything else, ask on the call.

Check if you’re a candidate
Is there an ibogaine clinic in Tecate?

None of the 8 directories we checked on October 21, 2026 lists one. The listed Baja California programs are in Tijuana, Rosarito and Ensenada. Ibogaine Treatment MX treats patients in Mexico City.

Is ibogaine legal in Mexico?

Ibogaine is not a controlled substance under Mexico’s General Health Law, and clinics that offer it still fall under Mexico’s health-facility rules. In the U.S. it is a Schedule I drug, so it can’t be prescribed or imported there.

Is Tecate safe for a medical trip?

The UK advises against all but essential travel to Tecate and the roads linking it to Tijuana. The U.S. rates Baja California Level 3, Reconsider travel. Neither government rates individual clinics.

What should I tell U.S. border officers when I come back?

The truth: you received medical treatment in Mexico. Carry your discharge summary and any prescriptions in their original containers. A false statement to a federal officer can be prosecuted under 18 U.S.C. 1001.

Can I bring Suboxone or methadone into Mexico?

Mexico classifies buprenorphine and methadone as narcotics. The U.S. Embassy advises carrying the prescription translated into Spanish, the original boxes and only what you need, and declaring them at customs. Our psychiatrist plans your transition before you travel.

Can I bring ibogaine back to the United States?

No. Ibogaine is Schedule I, and the personal-medication exemption doesn’t cover it. In 2025 a Colorado man was sentenced to 48 months in federal prison for distributing it.

How much does ibogaine treatment cost in Baja California?

Short programs publish $6,500 to $9,500, and opioid or fentanyl detox tracks run $9,350 to $30,000, across 12 programs we checked on October 21, 2026. Our 7-day program in Mexico City is $12,500, all-inclusive.

Do I need an FMM or pay a fee to visit Tecate?

The U.S. State Department says you don’t need an FMM if you stay within 20 km of the border for 6 days or less. Land visitors who stay 7 days or less are exempt from Mexico’s MXN 983 visitor fee.

What time is it in Tecate compared with Mexico City?

Tecate keeps San Diego time. Mexico City stays on UTC-6 all year, so it is 1 hour ahead in summer and 2 hours ahead after Baja California’s clocks fall back on November 1, 2026.

How do I check whether a clinic is still open?

Call the clinic, ask for its current registration number and a visit, and compare at least 2 directories with the clinic’s own site. On October 21, 2026, 2 directories disagreed about 1 Playas de Tijuana clinic.
